We have a variety of Edo period pieces from the Kano school, the Yamato-e school, the Rimpa school, and the Maruyama Shijyo school. We also offer paintings from the Meiji, Taisho and Showa era by famous modern artists. |
Byobu or folding screens were originally used to separate rooms and as enclosures for intimate spaces. Byobu literally means "wind wall". Many luxurious Byobu for decorative purposes were created between the Azuchi-Momoyama period and the Edo period. (16th-19th Century) The byobu in the photo was created in the mid Edo period. |
